September 14, 1951 - Fawley, Southampton
The largest oil refinery in Europe located on Southampton Water is opened by Prime Minister Clement Attlee. Completed 4 months ahead of schedule and estimated to produce 5.5 million gallons of oil per day, the construction had been the largest single refinery construction ever made.
