GateUK Listings
- Why is my business listed, when I have not submitted it?
- From time to time, we include websites that we consider of high enough standard and/or contains useful information for residents and visitors to the United Kingdom.
- You may be using a third-party submission or SEO service that has submitted your information to us. If this is the case, then Link Owner field on the details page of your listing will show who this was submitted by.
- What listing options do you offer and how much do these cost?
- We offer several listing options, with prices ranging from free upwards. Please see our listings page for full details.
- How long does it take for my submission to be reviewed?
- We will generally review your submission and provide you with a response, either accepting or denying your listing within 48 hours, often much sooner. However, certain listings, such as article submissions, will take longer to review, due to the research undertaken to ensure the originality and quality of the content. There are rare occasions, usually beyond our control, whereby a review could take longer.
- Can I get my listing removed from GateUK?
- Of course. If you were the original submitter, all you have to is drop us an email from the address that the submission was originally registered to, or log in and go to 'my links' and mark you site for removal.
- If you were not the original submitter then please look at the details page for the listing. If no owner is assigned, then either contact us via the form on the site, or drop us an email giving us as much detail of the listing as you can and if possible, your reasons for wanting it removed.
- If the listing has been assigned an owner, you will need to contact them. You can do this through GateUK, by clicking on the 'Contact' listing button the is placed on the details page.
- Why do you require a postal address for free UK listings?
- Unfortunately, this has to be done in order to maintain a free listing option and is done to prevent multiple spam submission from foreign locations that have nothing to do with the United Kingdom.
- While we would like to provide more flexibilty, with the global increase in Spam and our fight against it, we are unable to accept free submissions without a UK address.
- Other listing options are verified differently. For example, paid listing can be submitted without an address, as their details are confirmed upon Payment. International free listings must provide a reciprocal URL.
- If you are a UK business and want to list without a supplied address, then you can, but you must provide a valid reciprocal link back to us.
Why was my site denied or rejected?
We can reject listings for many reasons, but you will have been sent an e-mail explaining the reasons for rejection and information on how to impove your chance for approval in the future. Please see below of reasons for rejection.
- Poor description
- Your listing was rejected because the description you supplied contained too many errors, repeated words or phrases, poor grammar, poor spelling, not in English, inappropriate characters, prices. In short, the description you provide must be a brief overview of your business or service, in English with a good standard of spelling and grammar. While we will correct minor errors in your description, we will reject submissions that contain a higher than avergage proportion of grammatical errors.
- Poor content
- Your website submission contained insufficient original content, or appeared to be full of third-party advertisements. At GateUK, we are a UK business and leisure directory and will therefore not accpept listings for websites that are essentially banner farms or Free-For-all linking websites.
- Inappropriate content
- Your listing or attached website contains inappropriate content that we feel is unacceptable for a general audience. GateUK is a family safe website and as such, we cannot accept listings that we consider to be of an adult or mature nature.
- Invalid URL
- The website URL you supplied with you listing lead to a page that is unavailable or to a website that is not related to your listing. In such circumstances, GateUK reserve the right to either remove just the URL from your listing, or reject your listing completely.
- Not UK Specific
- Free UK and paid submission must be United Kingdom orientated and as such, they must represent the interests and requirements of United Kingdom consumers, or visitors to the UK regions.
- With the exception of free recciprocal listings, any listing not represent the United Kingdom or it's dependencies, will not be accepted.
- Invalid e-mail
- When you submit a link to us, our system automatically sends you an email confirming your submission to the email address you supplied. If this email 'bounces' back to us or is unable to to be sent, then your submission will be rejected.
- Also, all free submission must provide an email address that originates from the business domain that has been submitted (if submitted)
- This is done to prevent multiple spam submissions from foreign domains that use invalid email addresses.
Reciprocal Linking
- What is a reciprocal link?
- A reciprocal link is the exchange and display of URL's between websites. For example, if you place a link to GateUK on your website, we will, in exchange, place a link somewhere on our site back to yours.
- Why does reciprocal linking matter and what are it's effects?
- By exchanging links, you help each other increase your website's standing in the search community, thus helping increase search engine position and gain a higher ranking. All of this helps to drive more visitors to your website.
- What are the best practices for reciprocal linking?
- Generally it is considered to be good manners to provide a reciprocal link back to a site that has linked to yours. It is usually required that the link is accessable from your main page by your navigation structure. Hidden link pages are useless for the purpose of reciprocal linking, as are links embedded with a 'rel=nofollow' attribute. Reciprocal links provided by GateUK will always be available from the main page navigation and no more than two 'clicks' away. As such, we we will only accept reciprocal arrangements of a similar nature.
